UNITED NATIONS: The UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has warned the limited number of aid convoys for Gaza were insufficient to meet the humanitarian needs in the besieged territory, a western media reported on Monday.

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini told the UN Security Council, referring to the only border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, said that limited convoys being allowed through Rafah could not cater the demands of over two million people of Gaza.

Israel has unleashed a massive bombing campaign on Hamas-controlled Gaza after Hamas attack on October 7.

According to the Hamas-run health ministry over 8,000 people, mostly civilians have been killed in the Israeli strikes.

According to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, 33 trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered the Gaza through Rafah on Sunday. Before war, every day some 500 trucks carrying aid and other goods used to enter Gaza.

UNRWA stresses immediate humanitarian ceasefire

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini stressing for the Security Council to demand an immediate humanitarian ceasefire said the system in place to allow aid into Gaza is likely to fail unless there is political will to make the flow of supplies meaningful to match the unprecedented humanitarian needs.
