7 Somali Soldiers Killed in Al Shabaab Attack on Military Camp

ISLAMABAD: According to government sources, seven soldiers were killed on Friday during an Al Shabaab assault on a military camp in a town in central Somalia that was retaken by the army earlier. The army’s success had come during in a major offensive against the militant group.

As per a Ministry of Information statement, a top military commander was among those killed. The camp that the militants is located in the central Somalian town of Galcad, around 375 kilometers north of the capital Mogadishu.

The government statement said over 100 fighters of the militant group Al Shabaab were also killed.

Al Shabaab claim killing over 150 soldiers military camp attack

In a statement, Al Shabaab said the group was responsible for the attack and claimed to have killed over 150 soldiers of the Somalian army.

The information could not be verified by an independent.

A resident of Galcad, Absilahi Rage while speaking by phone to AFP said that gunmen belonging to the Al Shabaab used explosives to blast two trucks after which fighting between the two sides started.
